I wish to express my support for Crossford Community Council and their efforts to see an improved footpath and a cycleway between Dunfermline and Crossford. The current single path is not fit for purpose and does not encourage walking, cycling or mobility scooters. Fife has a number of good, safe routes around the West Fife villages and improvements made between Dunfermline and Crossford would significantly improve the connectivity of the area and promote sustainable, active travel. This improvement would benefit Crossford, Cairneyhill and the West Fife coastal villages. It would make traveling by foot, bike or using a mobility scooter much more attractive and safer for everyone, and encourage people to be more active, improving their health and well-being. I urge that it is considered as a project to take forward, and I hope to see progress in the near future.
Claire Baker, MSP Mid Scotland and Fife
I recognise that the existing facilities for those wanting to travel on foot between Dunfermline and Crossford are simply inadequate. At a time when we are trying to encourage active travel, this is exactly the sort of project that we should be supporting. If we are to get serious about both sustainable transport and tackling climate change, we do need to make it easier for people to get around without using motor vehicles, and this will only be possible with projects such as this.
I have copied this letter to Fife Council and Sustrans, and I am happy to do anything I can to lend my support.
Murdo Fraser, MSP Mid Scotland and Fife
I am writing to note my support for the proposed cycle path improvements between Dunfermline and Crossford. I am aware of the concerns which have been raised for some time regarding the existing pathway and the need for improvements to make it safe and fit for purpose. Not only would this serve as an important link for constituents between West fife villages and Dunfermline, this would also encourage sustainable travel throughout the area. We are aware of the health benefits which follow the increased use of cycle paths as an alternative means of travelling and this proposal would no doubt assist to encourage healthier alternatives.
Improvements along this pathway would have significant benefits to those living and working in the area and I am happy to support Crossford Community Council in their proposal.
Dean Lockhart MSP Mid Scotland and Fife
I write to state my support for the proposed footpath and cycleway between Dunfermline and Crossford. The Covid pandemic has taught us that we need to take better care of our environment and our physical and emotional health, and I believe that walking and cycling is integral to each of these objectives. I look forward to seeing this link in place so that it is easier to walk and cycle westwards from Dunfermline
Alex Rowley MSP, Mid Scotland and Fife
We fully support this p roposed cycle path between Dunfermline and Crossford. We actually wrote to Fife Council calling for this path to be made part of their Spaces for People measures during the pandemic.
Mark Ruskell MSP, Mid-Scotland and Fife
I am happy to support the local community in their request to have a new cycle path between Dunfermline and Crossford.
Liz Smith MSP, Mid Scotland and Fife
Fife Councillors
I am happy to support this project.
Councillor. Graeme Downie, West Fife & Coastal Villages
I write to give my whole-hearted support to Crossford Community Council’s project to create a shared use footpath/cycle path between Dunfermline and Crossford.
I know the community council and many of its members have put significant time and effort into this initiative, working with the full support of the village to engage with councillors, parliamentarians, council officers and other public bodies, as well as the local landowners, to identify suitable routes, possible sources of funding and innovative ways in which to ensure that the new path is accessible, safe, sustainable and a benefit not only to locals but to tourists and the wider community as it opens up non-motorised travel between Dunfermline and the West Fife villages beyond Crossford along towards Culross and Kincardine.
I am fully behind this project and will do all I can to support the community’s efforts to bring it to fruition.
Councillor Derek Glen, Dunfermline Central
Carnegie’s Way will be a huge benefit for both Crossford residents and the wider West Fife community. I am supporting this exciting project that will make sure there is a safe path encouraging more people to walk and cycle to and from Dunfermline.
Councillor. Aude Boubaker-Calder, Dunfermline Central
I have been the Provost of Fife and also a Councillor representing Crossford for eight and a half years. I know the villagers have been trying a lot longer than that to try and get an accessible and inclusive cycleway for all. I would like to offer my support and help in any way for this project.
Councillor Jim Leishman MBE, Provost of Fife
Carnegie’s Way is a very exciting opportunity for the whole Dunfermline and West Fife Area. It will have a positive impact on health and well-being, our local economy and our environment by allowing a proper path for cycling and walking between Dunfermline and the wider West Fife area.
Councillor James Calder, Dunfermline South
I am more than happy to support this fantastic and much needed proposal. The current path is indeed inadequate and a new shared-use path would be of huge benefit to Dunfermline and West Fife.
Councillor Samantha Steele, West Fife & Coastal Villages
This project goes a long way in connecting Dunfermline with the west fife villages, something I feel very strongly about. I hope this project marks the beginning of a new focus to bring the west fife villages closer to Dunfermline via various means, and to make sure Dunfermline is as accessible to the villagers as possible. This is something I have felt very strongly about since before the election and it’s something I am very proud to support going forward.
Councillor Conner Young, West Fife & Coastal Villages
